The AANEX Online Courses were developed to provide Nurse Executives with educational information and references for long-term care.
- Become a Certified Nurse ExecutiveTM, C-NETM
To become certified as a Nurse Executive (C-NE),
nurses must complete seven core courses that are leadership-driven and three elective courses of your choosing.
Continuing education credits (CE's) are available with the completion of each individual course. To log into this website,
please click the "Student Login" option and enter the login name/password supplied by
AANEX. Once logged in, you will have access to modules you have enrolled in.
- Or take individual courses of your choosing and receive Continuing Education Credits (CE's).
The American Association of Nurse Executives
The American Association of Nurse Executives is a non-profit professional association representing nurse executives in long-term care facilities. The AANEX Nurse Executive Certification Program provides nurses with the essentials needed to be successful leaders in long-term care.

The Nurse Executive Certification Program (C-NE)
Our course materials are written by the foremost national nursing leaders in long-term care policy and regulatory compliance. The correspondence and online courses are self-paced, convenient and accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our Workshops are taught by some of the most knowledgeable and dynamic instructors in the country. Our Master Teachers must meet strict criteria in order to qualify and be approved to teach the AANEX program.
Here's How the Certification Program Works:
To be eligible for the Certified Nurse Executive program, the participant must:
- Be a nurse involved in the long term care field
- Complete ten AANEX training courses.
- Seven of the ten courses must be core curriculum which consists of:
- Leadership and Management for the Nurse Executive
- Human Resources Management
- Risk Management
- Survey Readiness 24/7/365
- Survey Management & Enforcement
- Quality Improvement and the Nurse Executive
- Understanding Quality Indicators and Quality Measures
- In addition to completing the seven core courses, participants must complete a total of three elective courses of their choosing, either on-line or by correspondence course.
- Pass the final exam for each course with a score of 80% or better. The participant is allowed three attempts to pass the final exam, and if the participant does not pass the exam on the first attempt, the individual will have three months from the date of purchase of the course to take and pass the final exam. If the individual does not pass the final exam after three attempts, the participant can pay an additional administrative fee of $25 and take the final exam three more times within a 30 day period.

AANEX is committed to an interdisciplinary team approach to resident care. Additionally, we recognize that nurse executives serve at all levels. Therefore, this program is specifically written for nurses serving as:
- Directors of Nursing
- Staff Development Coordinators
- Nurse Managers
- Assistant Directors of Nursing
- Nurse Administrators
- Corporate Clinical Directors
- Clinical Consultants
- Others who aspire to be Nurse Executives

Once you have completed the necessary requirements for the program, AANEX will mail your Certificate of Completion and C-NETM (Certified Nurse ExecutiveTM) pin within 7 to 14 business days. Please take a moment to make sure we have the correct mailing address on file so as not to delay receiving your materials.
Educational Credit:
The American Association of Nurse Executives is approved as a provider of continuing education in nursing by the Colorado Nurses Association, which is accredited as an approver of continuing education in nursing by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
When the participant passes with a score of 80% or better, he/she will be notified of this, receive contact hours for the course, and be entered into the AANEX National Database for the Certification Program. Participants will be notified of their grade within 2-3 weeks upon receipt of the final exam in the AANEX office.
