Discussion Groups (Listservs)

The purpose of LTCNN's (AANAC/AANEX) Discussion Group is to share timely, needed information quickly and easily with our members. The LTCNN (AANAC/AANEX) Listserv is a benefit to the members of AANAC or AANEX, and is limited to only those members. Among all subscribed users there is a wide range of expertise, from the new graduate to the savvy experienced nurse consultant. Some of us are even close to being experts! Advice should be judged by references to CMS manuals, memos and other source documents. Subscribing/unsubscribing is done automatically by the listserver computer within a few moments of your emailed request. There is no cost to any participants! Convenient! All you need is an email address!

About Discussion Groups...

Discussion Groups are a means of getting in touch with large groups of your peers concerned with similar issues. They are one of the oldest features of the Internet beginning first with researchers and institutions, like the National Institutes of Health. Anyone with an E-mail address can put her or his address, subscribe, on the list of Discussion participants. Then every message sent to the group will also be sent to the subscriber. Users can also send their own messages to the entire group.

All subscribers can participate in the discussions, though many choose to read the questions and answers without replying. The number of messages can vary widely. Some days will see no traffic at all, while at times it is possible to regularly receive six dozen or more messages a day.

Subscribing to our Listserv is carried out automatically if you are a member of AANAC or AANEX. You send a one-line E-mail message to a special subscription "-request" address saying, "subscribe listname" (nothing more; no quotations, no punctuation); the receiving computer will process your request and send you a message acknowledging your addition to the list and asking to confirm the request. Your email address will not be sold or shared with other services. LTCNN (AANAC/AANEX) takes precautions against "spammers".

Please be sure to enter your email address as it appears in your membership record. If there is a discrepancy the email address given above will be used to overwrite your existing email address.

Once subscribed you will receive a welcome message, which contains pertinent information about that list. Don't lose that information. It may not be useful right now, but will be essential 6 months down the road when you want to leave the list.

The list address is the address you use if you want the message to be distributed to everyone else subscribed to the list. The "-request" address is the address you send all of your commands to.

AANEX Listserv Posting Guidelines

The size and wide distribution of the LTCNN (AANAC/AANEX) Listserv necessitates the following restrictions.

Spam

Expressly forbidden on the list is the rebroadcast of petitions, chain letters, alerts, calls to action, get-rich-quick schemes, political rants, recurring Virus or Modem Tax hoaxes, or similar resource-hogging, bandwidth-wasting spam that is so often propagated on lists.

Marketing and Recruiting Services

Soliciting business, providing a commercial post or recruiting for jobs is strictly prohibited. It is a violation of LTCNN (AANAC/AANEX) Listserv policy to post commercial messages to the LTCNN (AANAC/AANEX) Listserv, an action that will result in reprimand, and permanent removal on a second offense. If you work for a vendor/supplier company, you may have your contact information, including URL in your signature line but may not post any sales information nor may you solicit directly to those on the list.

Please do not post advertisements of any kind for services or products on the listserve.
Please do not type in all CAPS. It is considered screaming.
Please answer with the previous post, or participants do not know the question to which you are responding.
Please do not paste the entire post into a reply. Remove everything that does not apply to your answer.
Unless it's common usage, MD and PPS, spell it out at least once in your message next to the acronym. That way we can all learn from, ask and answer the E mail questions.
Do not "flame", threaten or use profanity.
Do not send chain letters!
